Iran hangs three men August 7, 2007

Tehran, Iran, Aug. 06 – Iranian authorities hanged three men in the south-eastern province of Sistan-va-Baluchistan on Monday, state media reported.

The men were identified as Abdul-Aziz Ismaeil Zehi, Abdul-Jamal Shahbakhsh and Ali-Akbar Shahbakhsh. (more…)

executionTEHRAN (Reuters) – Iran hanged the killers of a judge, who had jailed several reformist dissidents, before a crowd of girlhundreds of people on Thursday.(photo)

Majid Kavousifar and Hossein Kavousifar, his nephew, were hanged in front of Tehran’s Ershad judiciary complex, where they shot dead judge Hassan Moghaddas in his car in 2005.

The two were not political activists, but Tehran’s public prosecutor said Majid had believed the judge was corrupt. The prosecutor said the killers were also convicted of armed robbery and other murders. (more…)

Families claim Iranian student activists were tortured in prison July 31, 2007

Fears that Iran is systematically mistreating political prisoners and dissidents have been further fuelled after the parents of three detained student activists claimed their sons had been tortured.

In a letter to the country’s judiciary chief, Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi, the parents alleged that the students have suffered physical and psychological abuses since being incarcerated in Tehran’s Evin prison in May. (more…)

Tehran, Iran, Jul. 26 – Iranian authorities hanged a man in public in the northern province of Mazandaran on Thursday, state media reported.hanging
The unnamed man was hanged in a public square in the city of Sari, the state broadcasting corporation IRIB said on its website.
He was accused of rape.
The report said that he had been detained by security forces during the ongoing crackdown on “hooliganism”.

Sina Paymard remains under sentence of death

The execution of 18-year-old Sina Paymard, which was planned to take place on 17 July, has been postponed. Sina Paymard was sentenced to death in Iran for a crime committed when he was just 16 years old.According to reports, Sina Paymard had been moved from Reja’i Shahr prison in Karaj to Tehran’s Evin prison for his execution to be carried out on 17 July. Members of Birmingham’s Iranian Refugee Association today held a commemorative picket at the Immigration and Asylum Tribunal (IAT) in Sheldon, Birmingham, to remember the death of their friend Babak Ahadi, who took his own life two years ago. Babak, born in Iran in 1972, set himself on fire on 5 July, 2005, after his asylum claim was dismissed by the IAT at Sheldon Court. He had fled Iran in 2002 after an Islamic group threatened to expose that he had converted to Christianity, which would have led to his execution. (more…)

Tehran, Iran, Jul. 22 – Iranian authorities hanged 12 people in Tehran on Sunday, the state broadcasting corporation executionIRIB reported on its website.

Tehran’s chief prosecutor Saeed Mortazavi announced that the 12 unnamed individuals were hanged earlier in the day.

He said their charges included kidnapping and drug trafficking.

Four other individuals were hanged in Tehran last week on similar charges, he added.

Iranian authorities routinely execute dissidents on bogus charges such as armed robbery and drug smuggling.

 Authorities in Iran’s northwestern Kurdistan Province have condemned two ethnic Kurds to irandeath for acting against the country’s national security.

Their lawyers told Radio Farda that they will appeal their death sentences.

The trial has been accompanied by unconfirmed suggestions in the Iranian media that the two men — journalist Adnan Hassanpur and social activist Hiwa Butimar — were working with banned groups that oppose the government.
