Tehran, Iran, Aug. 01 – Iranian authorities hanged seven people in public on Wednesday, official state media reported while showing images of the men hanging.( Photos)
Five men were hanged in front of a crowd in the city of Mashad, north-east Iran. State television aired footage of the hanging. The men, all handcuffed, were hanged under a banner which read, “Implementation of justice equals improvement of security”. (more…)
Iran sentences 2 journalists to death August 1, 2007

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) – The Iranian judiciary confirmed that two journalists from the country’s Kurdish minority have been sentenced to death, state media reported Tuesday.
The verdict is a rare for journalists in Iran, despite constant state pressure on media workers. (more…)

The execution of 18-year-old Sina Paymard, which was planned to take place on 17 July, has been postponed. Sina Paymard was sentenced to death in Iran for a crime committed when he was just 16 years old.According to reports, Sina Paymard had been moved from Reja’i Shahr prison in Karaj to Tehran’s Evin prison for his execution to be carried out on 17 July. Tehran, Iran, Jul. 22 – Iranian authorities hanged 12 people in Tehran on Sunday, the state broadcasting corporation
IRIB reported on its website.
Tehran’s chief prosecutor Saeed Mortazavi announced that the 12 unnamed individuals were hanged earlier in the day.
He said their charges included kidnapping and drug trafficking.
Four other individuals were hanged in Tehran last week on similar charges, he added.
Iranian authorities routinely execute dissidents on bogus charges such as armed robbery and drug smuggling.

Authorities in Iran’s northwestern Kurdistan Province have condemned two ethnic Kurds to
death for acting against the country’s national security.
Their lawyers told Radio Farda that they will appeal their death sentences.
The trial has been accompanied by unconfirmed suggestions in the Iranian media that the two men — journalist Adnan Hassanpur and social activist Hiwa Butimar — were working with banned groups that oppose the government.

A WOMAN who faced being stoned to death in Iran for the “crime” of becoming a Christian was granted a reprieve last night when Britain postponed her deportation.
Samar Razavi, 30, was just hours away from being forced on to a Tehran-bound plane when Daily Express columnist Ann Widdecombe raised her case in Parliament. (more…)
Call for immigrant amnesty in UK July 17, 2007

Half a million illegal immigrants should be given the right to stay in Britain, a think tank has said. 
The Institute of Public Policy Research says such an amnesty would bring in £1bn in extra taxes, and save costs of £4.7bn needed to deport people.
It is urging Home Secretary Jacqui Smith to adopt the move, saying a large scale deportation would never happen. (more…)

Dear All,
Please find a link below to the Refugee Council’s briefing on the legacy questionnaires that has been produced, it’s quite sel explanatory.
As regards to what the Refugee COuncil can do in the region, we have established a referral system to solicitors so that anybody who receives a questionnaire will have legal aid to fill it up.
Please ask anybody you know to come to the office on 1 Dewsbury Road to be referred to a solicitor and get further information on these questionnaires.
Again, please bare in mind that this IS NOT AN AMNESTY EXCERCISE.
